Airport Carbon Accreditation Website Privacy Policy
The European region of Airports Council International (referred to as “ACI EUROPE” or “We”) is committed to protecting your privacy. For this reason, we have created this Privacy Policy to help you understand how we collect, use and protect personal data.
This Privacy Policy is a binding agreement between you and ACI EUROPE in its legal capacity as the owner of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. This policy may change from time to time, therefore we recommend that you check it regularly. Use of your information:
ACI EUROPE receives and stores personal data you enter on the Airport Carbon Accreditation website. We collect and record in our database your contact details whenever you subscribe to our newsletters. To take advantage of these services, it is necessary for you to disclose personal information, as defined in EU Regulation 2016/679 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including but not limited to one or more of the following identifying information: full name, email address, job title, company name and telephone number.
We use this personal data to keep you posted regarding the latest developments within the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme and the broader climate mitigation landscape within and beyond the aviation sector.
We use the personal data you provide to respond to your requests, communicate with you, provide information about the programme and customise and improve our services.
Whenever users visit the Airport Carbon Accreditation website, information is collected anonymously and used to report on the traffic and other general statistics of website usage, without identifying individual visitors. ACI EUROPE uses this information to make the Airport Carbon Accreditation website easier to find on the Internet and to improve it by learning which pages and features are interesting to our visitors. We may share your information within the Airports Council International family (ACI World and other ACI regional organisations). According to Article 4.3 of the ACI EUROPE Statute, any member of ACI EUROPE is de facto member of AIRPORTS COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL (ACI). When using your personal data, these organisations have expressly declared to act in full compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation.
Third-Party Service Providers: We may share personally identifiable information with third parties only as described in this section. We will not sell or commercialize personal data.
ACI EUROPE employs other companies and persons to perform certain business functions on its behalf, including but not limited to programme administration, website development and maintenance, marketing, preparation of events, accounting and payment processing. They are obliged to provide us with a certification of compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation requirements.

Airport Carbon Accreditation is an independent, voluntary programme administered by WSP, an international consultancy appointed by ACI EUROPE to enforce the accreditation criteria for airports on an annual basis. The administration of the programme is overseen by an Advisory Board.
As of November 2011, Airport Carbon Accreditation has been extended to airports in the Asia-Pacific region, in cooperation with ACI Asia-Pacific. The programme was also extended to the African region of ACI in June 2013. In September 2014, Airport Carbon Accreditation took off in North America and it went global in November 2014 with its extension to airports in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Airports applying to become accredited must have their carbon footprints independently verified in accordance with ISO14064 (Greenhouse Gas Accounting). Evidence of this must be provided to the programme administrator (WSP) together with all claims regarding carbon management processes which must also be independently verified.
The definitions of emissions footprints used by Airport Carbon Accreditation follow the principles of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the World Resources Institute (WRI) “Greenhouse Gas Protocol” Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. When considering the emissions from aircraft within the airport perimeter and on final approach and initial departure, Airport Carbon Accreditation uses the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) definition of the Landing-Take Off cycle and requires airports to comply with these definitions.
